Today is International Literacy Day!

Operating in Burkina Faso since 2007, the OLVEA Group supports economic, social and sustainable development in Africa through the empowerment and resilience of local communities.

In 2022, thanks to the support of OLVEA’s Philanthropic Fund, two literacy centers have been opened in the rural villages of Ouessa and Zambo (Burkina Faso). This operation marks the beginning of a 3-year educational cycle, during which learners will benefit from training in reading, writing and arithmetic.

Beyond the educational perspective of this program, literacy is a real driver of social transformation as well as individual and collective growth. It promotes the development of skills, financial autonomy, and women social status.

Since the launch of this program by OLVEA’s Philanthropic Fund in 2013, over 900 people have benefited from these campaigns. This year 88 people (77% of whom are women) have followed those classes.

Did you know? Illiteracy is one of the major challenges in Africa. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 global pandemic, nearly 24 million learners, including 11 million women, do not have access to education and learning. (Source: UNESCO)
