Sesame (Sesamum Indicum) is an annual plant part of the Pedaliaceae family. It is one of the most ancient oleaginous seeds and has been cultivated for over 4,000 years. Often referred to as the « Queen of oils », Sesame oil has been valued since antiquity, from Egypt to India, for its culinary and cosmetic properties.
Sesame seeds are typically sown at the beginning of the rainy season. When the plants turn yellow, they are harvested, bundled and left to dry for several weeks before the seeds are carefully separated.
